Absinthe from France

France is generally considered the motherland of the absinthe. Indeed in no other country did absinthe gain such popularity as in nineteenth-century France. At the same time, it was the envy of the competition, particularly the French wine industry, which finally led to the ban on absinthe in France and many other countries. Since 1998, the production of absinthe has been permitted again, but only recently has it been allowed to be labeled as such. Many French absinthes are produced today using original 19th Century recipes which contain the very same ingredients as absinthe from that time.
